Lawrence Moving Art Projects
LMAP is directed by Jean M Denney, artist/dancer/somatic practitioner, is a CMA (Certified Laban/Bartenieff Movement Analyst), ISMETA registered movement educator (International Somatic Movement Education & Therapy Association), and professional dancer. Ms. Denney is a life-long social dance participant with an MFA in Dance, Performance, and Choreography from Arizona State University and PhD in Dance and Performance Practice from Texas Woman's University. She has practiced diverse social and cultural dance forms and performed as a contemporary movement artist since 1982. Jean has practiced as a somatic movement educator since 1994.
LMAP was inspired by Savannah Moving Art Projects (SMAP), our sister group in Savanah, GA. SMAP is the brainchild of professional artist/educator/dance movement therapist Janet Kaylo. Ms. Kaylo has an MA in Jungian and Post Jungian Studies, has published on the topic of phenomenology and the body/movement, and has had an international impact on somatic studies since 1995. She is the Founder/Director of Laban/Bartienieff Somatic Studies International (LSSI).
