Somatic Education for Adults

The options below comprise the core areas of Laban Movement Analysis. As a Certified Laban Movement Analyst (CMA), I am certified and legally sanctioned to teach all of this material, particularly Bartenieff Fundamentals, which is a trademarked somatic modality.*

INDIVIDUALS

For the individual seeking body orchestration, awareness, injury prevention, or trauma recovery, concepts from each area are combined to address the needs of the client.

GROUPS

For groups of learners, workshops or sessions are designed to meet the desired needs of the group.

PROFESSIONALS

Individuals wishing to meet prerequisite terms for entrance into certification programs can do so privately or in small groups. Sessions can be designed for Body Workers and Healthcare Providers to meet Continuing Education units. Please contact me for this service.

*Many and various practitioners utilize Laban theory and concepts from Imgard Bartenieff's codified work, however they are often missing vital supporting information from corresponding areas of the Laban analysis system.

Bartenieff Fundamentals (TM)

A review of body organization possibilities and the progressive, six movement concepts codified by Irmgard Bartenieff, a student of Rudolphy von Laban who was a physical therapist. These concepts will reintroduce movers to concepts and developmental patterns from birth to bipedal locomotion.

Effort/Shape Exploration

This core Laban Analysis area focuses on intention and expression via dynamics and relationships. Movers explore weight, time, space, and flow as dynamics for movement and basic concepts for relating internal/external, inside/outside, and experiences/responses.

Space Harmony

Space Harmony explores the relationship of the body's internal structure to geometric or crystalline structures found in general space, where we move. Concepts about crystalline forms, dimentions, planes, and the variations in, or changes to, mobility and stability that help orient human movement in space are key to these explorations.

individual Assessment

Individual assessments are client driven. Tension holding patterns, pain, range of motion, stuckness are all common reasonson for individual assessment and somatic exploration. Assessments and resulting course of study utilize an integrated approach to help affect changes in movement, perception, and awareness. This often is a process of observation, dialog, and movement repetition between practitioner and client.
